For the past 16 years, I've been working for a VIP aviation operation in the Middle East, reaching the pinnacle of a stellar flying career. This meant spending considerable time away from my wife and children.
Ever since I was a young teenager, pornography had been a ‘fascination’ for me. I knew it was wrong, yet repeatedly got drawn into it, while justifying to myself that I had it under control.
In July of 2020, my life imploded. I had got to a point where everything I had worked so hard to build up, my marriage, my family, my finances, my career, were literally going to be lost.
Pornography had pulled me to such a depraved level, that it was now in control, and destroying everything of value in my life.
I was put in touch with Chris, and using online video calls, we began the Recovery Course. The power of the Course, together with Chris’s understanding and encouragement, began a process that transformed my life.
7 months later, the change in my life has been nothing short of dramatic. I am no longer working in the Middle East, and my wife and I spend every day together, with our day starting each morning in Bible study.
After being a Captain for so many years, I've consciously put God into the ‘Left seat’ of my life to plot the new direction.

Chris West-Russell, an Addiction and Recovery Expert did assist my wife and I for a year by weekly consulting at our house to get us to understand addiction, get us to understand how to handle a family member with an addiction, and to learn to enjoy and support a recovered addict.
We are amongst many people/families who have a family member or friend caught in an addiction. One solution for the addict is going to a proper Rehab Center, but what does the family do who stays behind? Who do they ask for help? Is there help? Are we as a family, guilty? So many unanswered questions.
We met Chris via searching on the internet. We knew, we ourselves needed help urgently and big advice to understand addiction.
Since Chris came into our lives we finally got all questions answered and he guided us to walk safely the path to get our real son back in our lives.
Addiction is a disease only a handful of people understand what it is, what causes it, and how to help an addict but most important, how to help yourself.

Chris, who is a rehabilitated substance abuser and has been “clean” for 37 years, spoke to a combined group of Grade 6 and 7 boys and girls on the subject of “Addiction”.
Chris has an excellent storytelling manner but is also a person of presence, and the children were enthralled, not only with his story but with his advice and answers during the Q&A session. He covered “addiction” in its broader sense, including gambling, gaming and eating disorders in the talk.
Chris is also a valuable source of counsel for parents and has strong views on the correct use of behavior controlling drugs such as Ritalin. As such I believe that he would be well placed to offer a different perspective on the ADHD child in a staff room.
Chris and his family have moved to Cape Town, but he does commute monthly and would be available to offer talks in Gauteng. I would be happy to share further details regarding his program.
